Linux Router Configuration: NAT, IP Masquerading, DHCP
There is such a staggering amount of information out there I must now close my firefox tabs to save ram. This is how you make a Linux Router.

Sort of on that note, I wrote this in another forum:

OK, here's my HOWTO for turning Ubuntu JeOS into a serviceable browser appliance:

Download and install the JeOS ISO image to your VM program. Install, do not select LVM because that doesn't work in this version. When you set up the VM, tell it you want at least 384MB of RAM and 4GB of hard drive space.

After you've set things up in the install, type "sudo aptitude install firefox ubuntu-restricted-extras gdm gnome-terminal linux-virtual build-essential update-notifier".

Wait for some hours while it downloads and installs. Have a cup of tea.

After you reboot & log in, the computer will complain about the FastUserSwitch applet crashing. Tell it it's OK to remove it.

Install your VM program's guest additions, if it has such a thing. Reboot.

If you're using VirtualBox:
Open a terminal & type "gksudo displayconfig-gtk". Change the video driver to vboxvideo and the screen type to LCD Panel 1024x768. Save and reboot.

Bob's your uncle! -- ktw

Cool howto! I do not *think* I need a network appliance... if I do, I'll use ubuntu most likely - it's been too long since I learned a new major distribution.

99.159.222.188 - s31 (gentoo) public gateway and netboot server (maybe also an sftp file server, should I feel the need)

is networked to:

s32 s33 s34 s35 s36 s37 s38 (diskless nodes)
s21 debian? netboot server
s41 clusterknoppix? netboot server
s11 quantian? netboot server
Personal debian box (for login, control, most everything)
Personal puppy laptop (for playing pandora and youtube)

with:
s21 networked to s22-s27 (diskless nodes)
s11 networked to s12-s17 (diskless nodes)
s41 networked to s42-s47 (diskless nodes, still down for repair)
